Process Mapping

Process Map, is similarly to a VSM, is a mapping tool to understand exactly what is happening in the process area. A process map is far more detailed depiction of the actual process. The key fundamental when drawing out a process map is flow, a focusing on not building waste into the process and ensuring the process has the ability to be flexible enough should customer demand change.

A linear layout is an option where the footprint is similar in size to an island process layout; a clear material flow has far more clarity than that of an island process. Machine run times can allow for the operator to do other tasks within the process. The advantage that the linear process has over an island process is the potential of easy introduction of a second operator.
