Case Study 2 - Developing a Streamline Process Design, Process Visualisation & Change Management Program

They are genuine “Manufacturers in Great Britain,” with the experience and expertise gained in over 40 years of making beautiful kitchens having been honed and distilled into what they do today. The client is a manufacturer and supplier of bespoke furnishings to high end clients; which also designs, warehouses (where necessary) and has a distribution and on site fitting facility.

 

Client Needs

The client is a manufacturer and supplier of bespoke furnishings to high end clients; which also designs, warehouses (where necessary) and has a distribution and on site fitting facility. A secondary area that has been identified as a concern by leadership management is potential employee response and buy in to the project.

 

Activity

Prior to commencement Lean Progression Ltd will work with the client Management Team to identify the key processes types and work flows in operations and select the most important workflows to be priority areas for improvement. We will then work alongside the client leadership team to form a cross function team involving the experts within the business on each step of the chosen processes.


The team will start by mapping the end to end workflows for each process as well as the communication flows that control workload and the movement the work from one step of the process to the other. We will help the team identify the value added and non-value added time at each step of the process. From this information we will work with the team to produce a current state map, which will clearly show the current process and identify the opportunities within this process.


We will then assist the client to develop a future state map, which will be aimed at streamlining the flow of production and eliminating waste. This future state map will include:

  • Practical actions to improve workflow and remove wasted time and effort in order to reduce cost and waste, and achieve a short, consistent lead-time.
  • Simple, straightforward communication flows that enable day to day workload to be managed by frontline staff and provide clear visibility of the status of production at all times and at each step of the process. Visual Management.
  • Daily efficiency metrics that are maintained by the production team that enable them to take accountability for daily productivity, quality, delivery and safety. Look to identifying  and initiating effective KPIs.
  • Simple practical tools and techniques that will create a “visual workflow” make backlogs and the status of work visible at all times through the process. Initiate visual management.
